DEWSBURY Area Committee thanked police last night for their hard work in the ongoing search for Shannon Matthews.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, chairman Coun Eric Firth said they all hoped it would lead to Shannon being found safe and well.

He also noted the contribution of fellow councillors who had spent time working with the local community and supporting events like the sponsored walk last night.

During the meeting Insp Ian Gayles, of Dewsbury neighbourhood policing team, told the committee about the role his teams were playing in the investigation.

He said the neighbourhood policing team had been helping with searches and working to dispel rumours.

He said: "We've been producing update sheets for the community explaining why we do things and how we do things around searching. As of last week we have search more than 1,000 adresses, 89 of those were to a higher degree than others."

He added that the way the community had come together had amazed officers and allowed them to work closely with the public.
