An inspirational short film has been created to highlight the importance of caring for terminally-ill children and their families.

The video about the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice has been made to mark Children’s Hospice Week and was shown on ITV’s Daybreak yesterday (Monday).

The charity supports more than 50 children and their families across Wakefield, Kirklees and Calderdale.

One of those is Lucy Thompson, who has quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy - a condition which affects the muscles and has left her wheelchair dependent. Lucy also suffers from epilepsy, visual impairment and global developmental delay.

The video focuses on her 15-year-old brother Josh, to show how siblings often find themselves playing the role of a carer and are also supported by children’s hospices.

Their mum Dawn Thompson, of Thornhill, Dewsbury, said: “Josh has been brilliant but really in an ideal world he shouldn’t have had to have been that brilliant, he has had to grow up very quickly.

“He’s the one whose always there for me, the one who will cheer me up when I’m felling down.”
