A FAMILY of five has been struggling to keep on top of its rubbish after more than two years without a green bin.

The lid to the Coulson family’s green bin was broken during a collection back in 2008.

Neil Coulson, 44, put in requests for a new bin lid with a bin man two years ago and with Kirklees Council officials 18 months ago.

But his broken bin is still standing unused in his garden.

If the family leaves the lid on loose it falls in the wagon with their rubbish and without the lid, the bin soon fills with rainwater.

Mr Coulson, of Laithes Croft, Earlsheaton, said: “I used to recycle but everything just goes in the one grey bin now or to the tip. The worst thing was when they had a truck bring new bins round. I thought I was finally going to get one but it went to the house three doors up.”

A council spokeswoman said it was unsure why the bin had not been replaced but a new one would be delivered by the end of the week.
