Strong winds have caused a tree to come crashing to the ground near a Dewsbury retail park.

The tree was blown over on Longcauseway in the town centre, with branches protruding out onto the road.

Kirklees has this week been battered by winds reaching speeds of 45mph, causing damage including uprooted trees across the region.

A Kirklees Council spokesperson said: “Three forestry teams are out tackling tree damage across the area.

“This includes Wilton Park in Batley, Earlsheaton, Cleckheaton and other areas in the south of Kirklees.”

The council has said the three will be cleared once a team is available.
