BRAZEN thieves snatched a suitcase from a train when it pulled up at Dewsbury station.

A guard spotted two people jump onto the Middlesbrough to Manchester Airport train at 3.46pm on Tuesday before leaping back off with a suitcase.

And in a bizarre twist, firefighters were called moments later to a nearby play area where the suitcase was ablaze.

The remains of the suitcase and singed clothes still lay scattered in the Eightlands Road park yesterday morning.

On Tuesday, passengers were warned about the robbery as trains approached Dewsbury.

Passenger Claire Hunt said: “Every time they announced it, they said it had happen at Dewsury. We all thought, ‘not Dewsbury again!’

“It’s not very good publicity for the train companies.”
