A MUSIC teacher, who plays piano in her school’s assemblies, will carry on playing for pupils into her retirement.
Gill Makin, who has worked at Headfield Junior School in Thornhill Lees for 21 years, was seen off with a surprise assembly last Wednesday.
She plays the piano in school assemblies every Wednesday, and although she’s retiring, she will still go in and play one day a week. She will be missed by pupils at the school, since her music lessons are a break from the normal school routine.
Mrs Makin said: “We do silly lessons, because music is meant to be fun. If it’s not fun, it’s not working.”
In her retirement, Mrs Makin is looking forward to having more time to herself and spending more time with her family.
