A pub is backing an international health campaign by asking its male staff and customers to cultivate moustaches.
The West Riding is supporting Movember, a month-long event which raises awareness of men’s health. The campaign, which began last Friday, also raises money for projects to combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health illness.
Manager Ian Morris, who joined the pub last month, said: “With Movember being male-oriented, I think some of the lads were going to be growing moustaches. I’ll be turning my beard into a moustache – my wife isn’t too happy with that!
“One of the staff, Bill, has had a beard for as long as he can remember so I’m trying to talk him into getting rid of it all or part of it too.” Mr Morris is asking staff and regulars to email their ‘before’ photos to firstname.lastname@example.org for a special display. And customers will be encouraged to drop a donation into the collection boxes at some point during November to show their support. The hope then is to get everyone who has taken part to call into the pub during a charity auction on Sunday December 1 to show off their new looks.
Mr Morris said: “I’ve been writing to all the breweries asking for donations and some of them have already come back to me. Black Sheep have offered a tour round the brewery and meal for two. We’ve got T-shirts and Ossett Brewery have offered us some merchandise.”
