A CAMPAIGN group that wanted to have an open space recognised as a village green have had their application formally rejected.
Residents Against Greenfield Exploitation applied to Kirklees Council to claim land off Chickenley Lane as a village green, but an independent inquiry recommended that the council refuse it earlier this year.
Last Thursday, the council’s licensing and safety committee approved the inquiry’s recommendation, with only two of the nine councillors voting against.
After the meeting, Denise Hollis from RAGE said the group was now considering seeking a judicial review of the committee’s decision.
The group hoped to claiming the land as a village green to stop a proposed housing development.
