A Dewsbury school is very proud to announce that it is the regional winner of a maths competition based around the 2021 Census.

All the children at Diamond Wood Community Academy, Ravensthorpe, participated in the Office for National Statistics’ “Let’s Count!” competition.

The event aimed to improve maths and writing skills, using the real-life event of Census 2021 as a stimulus.

Sally Titherington, head of school, said the pupils made a fantastic display.

“We chose to count spring flowers in the school grounds and local community for our very own, special census," she said.

“The children worked together to create a fantastic display filled with tally charts, paper daffodils, watercolour tulips and photos of the fun maths activities we did on that day.”
