A pensioner was assaulted by two men who had broken into her home.

The 70-year-old was in bed when she heard a noise downstairs.

The woman and her daughter went to investigate when they saw three men on the first floor who had broken into the house.

Two of the men ran upstairs and assaulted the pensioner while demanding property.

All three men then fled when a man living in the house appeared.

The woman was not seriously injured but was left very shocked and upset.

The incident happened at her home on Bunkers Lane, Batley, at around 1am on Friday.

Det Con Richard Brooke, of Kirklees CID, said: “This is clearly a very serious offence in which a 70-year-old woman has been assaulted in her own home.

“It is important we locate the men responsible as quickly as possible

“All three were described as white and wearing dark clothing, and made off in the direction of Abbey Road.

“Fortunately incidents such as this are rare and I would ask anyone who saw three men behaving suspiciously outside the address shortly before the incident, or fleeing in the direction of Abbey Road to contact us.”

Anyone with information should call Kirklees CID on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
