A SCHOOL’S new headteacher started work this week.

Dewsbury-born Jonathan Mitchell replaces David Powell as the man in charge of Thornhill Community Science College.

After working in Paris, Mr Mitchell, pictured above with pupils, trained to teach French and German at Leeds University, going on to work at schools in Leeds and Wakefield.

He said: “I arrive at Thornhill at an extremely exciting time and am honoured to have been asked to lead the college during its journey to becoming an outstanding place of learning and achievement.”

“I am very much looking forward to working with staff, students, parents, governors and the whole community to make sure Thornhill Community Science College is a college everyone can be proud of. After the successes of the last few years, with year upon year of record-breaking GCSE results, parents can be secure in the knowledge that their children will be given every possible opportunity to flourish academically and socially at Thornhill.”
