To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the Community of the Resurrection (CR) and the re-hallowing of the community church on Sunday 9 July, the CR launched has the picture book which also chronicles the recent refurbishments at the church.

The community was founded by Charles Gore in Oxford in July 1892 and moved to Mirfield in January 1898.

The foundation stone for the Community Church was laid on 22 September 1911 and the church was finally completed and consecrated on 6 July 1938.

The church had to close on 30 September 2009 for structural repairs and refurbishment, which began in 2011 and was completed this year.

The Superior of the Community, Brother George Guiver CR, said: “Our church now attracts hordes of people – its stunning refurbishment and the new art-works commissioned for it – deserved a commemorative picture-book, and we are extremely pleased with what Frances Stott has produced.

“The publication shows monastic life fully engaged with the contemporary world in our common search for what is unchanging.”

The booklet contains 40 pages of information as well as 107 black and white and colour photographs and drawings.

It is available from Mirfield Publications (www.mirfield.org.uk/shop, email [email protected] at a cost of £6.50 plus postage and packing from Saturday 8 July.
