Tracy Brabin said: “I have chosen Batley Food Bank as my first charity because it is a fantastic asset for our community, run by local people to support local people in need.

“As the MP for Batley and Spen, it’s heartbreaking to hear stories such as a young mum with a premature baby who, having been sanctioned, has needed to turn to the Food Bank, or of people in work whose wages don’t keep up with the cost of living.

“I know that Batley Food Bank is more important now than ever before. I encourage anyone who can, to donate food or funds to the charity, and to consider committing some of their time as a volunteer.”

Ken Lowe, chairman of the food bank said: “What a brilliant idea it is to have a charity of the month, shows just how thoughtful and caring Tracy is.

“I am absolutely delighted that Batley Food Bank has been chosen as the first of the monthly recipients.

“It is particularly welcome right now because we are busier than I have ever known and are finding it ever more difficult to keep up with demand.”
