VICTIMS of Nazi persecution and other genocides were remembered during a Holocaust Memorial Day event in Dewsbury.

Holocaust survivor Iby Knill was joined by African refugees who have fled conflict for Untold Stories.

Pupils from Thornhill Community Science College were among four schools hosting the event, which included a performance by actor Kevin Walkley about West Yorkshire mill steward Richard Oastler who fought to improve working conditions for children.

Kim Strickson, from Kirklees museums and galleries, said: “The town hall was full. We had a real mix of people and ages in the audience which was great.

“There were poems, readings and songs. It was really wonderful.”
