A TEAM of travel agents in Mirfield plan to try their hands as auctioneers in the name of a good cause.

Staff at Co-op Travel are hosting a week-long silent auction of sports tickets and memorabilia in aid of Mencap.

The charity, which supports people with learning disabilities and their families, is the Co-operative Group’s chosen charity for 2011.

And the Mirfield team is determined to raise as much money for the appeal as possible.

First up is a silent auction which will be taking bids from Monday until Saturday May 14.

Lots include family tickets to watch the Dewsbury Rams and Bradford Bulls and two adult tickets to a Leeds Rhinos game.

A selection of sporting memorabilia and other prizes will also be on display in the Huddersfield Road branch.

Next week, the branch will also put its brochures to one side to make room for a book sale. Visitors are invited to drop in books at the same time as browsing the book stand.

But the sale and the auction are only the beginning. The team is already planning a sponsored walk to be held in August.
