Gatecrashers trashed a family home during a house party in Liversedge and stole cash and belongings worth up to £40,000.
A group of youths turned up at the house in Dymond Road with bags, smashed the lights and “imprisoned” around 50 guests late on Saturday, June 28, police were told.
Items stolen included jewellery, two watches, a camera, iPads, two Playstations, an MP3 docking station, headphones, pictures and £15,000 in cash made from the sale of a campervan.
Owners Paul and Alison Beaumont had been camping in Malham without a mobile phone signal and only found out the next morning after receiving a panicked text from their daughter, 15, who threw the party, which said: “Dad I’m scared, there’s people in the house.”
Mr Beaumont said: “I was nearly physically sick.
“She was in a state of shock. She was crying her eyes out, it was awful. On Wednesday morning she locked herself in the bathroom. She was just frightened.”
She was meant to have stayed with friends on the Saturday night.
Mr Beamount was told that the youths had taken his keys and sat in his car and were confronted by a neighbour.
It is also alleged that a picture of a youth surrounded by cash later appeared on picture-sharing website Instagram, but has since been taken down.
Mr Beaumont said: “The people who did this want locking up. What goes through their minds? They imprisoned them in the house.”
He added that friends who were with them on the camping trip were “flabbergasted,” before everyone joined in the cleaning effort.
Mr Beaumont also expressed gratitude for a Facebook campaign which was given widespread support. A watch and some cash have since been returned to the family, lessening the damage.
Det Insp Andy Parr, of Kirklees CID, said: “Officers attended on the morning of the report and enquiries have being ongoing since which have revealed a number of positive lines of enquiry.”
A 15-year-old girl and four males aged 14-18 from the local area have have been arrested and are in custody. Some of the suspected stolen items have been recovered.
