The students travelled to Freemasons’ Hall in the capital to meet businessman and TV star Peter Jones CBE, as they graduated from the Dragon’s charity the Peter Jones Foundation’s enterprise academy scheme.

Arun Kumar was named National Level 3 Student of the Year and the college’s head of enterprise Lydia Butterworth received the Business Enterprise Manager of the Year award, while the whole group collected certificates from Peter Jones and the charity’s patron the Duke of York.

Lydia’s recognition came because of her hard work securing business contacts for Kirklees students to maximise their opportunities.

“Graduation is the highlight of my year – seeing the learners walking across the stage to collect their qualification and shake Peter Jones by the hand is a source of such pride and happiness,” she said.

“When Arun won, I thought I was going to burst with excitement. He is an outstanding learner and lovely young man and there is no doubt in my mind that he will become a very successful entrepreneur”.

The Peter Jones Enterprise Academy is a nationwide network of colleges that deliver specialist courses in enterprise. Students are encouraged to set up and run their own businesses.
