CHARITY CHALLENGE: Reporter Series photographer Jake Oakley takes on the It's A Knockout course.

THE Reporter Series team has one very important resolution this year – to raise thousands for good causes.

During the past 12 months our staff have taken part in all kinds of charity challenges from It’s a Knockout to abseiling down Huddersfield University.

And with your help, we want to make 2013 our biggest year of fundraising yet.

This week we kick off a 12-month appeal in aid of four fantastic charities – Kirkwood Hospice, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, One Community and Asthma UK.

Reporter Series editor Hannah Ridgeway said: “As a series of local papers, we’re very proud to be part of the communities here in North Kirklees.

“It’s rare for a week to go by without us hearing from a reader doing something to help others, whether it’s volunteering or raising funds for a good cause.

“It’s that spirit of generosity and goodwill that has inspired this appeal and the creation of the Reporter Series Fund.”

All the money donated to the fund will be shared equally between our chosen charities, helping them to make a real difference to people’s lives.

We will also be producing four charity editions in 2013, with a penny from every paper sold in those weeks going into the fund.

Miss Ridgeway said: “I’m delighted to say that we’ve already had our first donation from a reader who gave £1 as soon as he heard about our plans to start a charity appeal.

“I hope all our readers will be just as supportive and join us now in making a resolution to back the appeal in some way.”
