Three days of strikes at Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals

HOSPITAL staff will walk out for three days of strike action next week in a dispute over redundancies and pay cuts.

Staff at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust will strike on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in protest at cuts their union says will leave members with higher workloads and with up to £2,800 less in their pay packets.

The action by admin and clerical workers has been called after a one-day walkout on November 1 at the trust, which runs Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals,

Staff overwhelmingly voted for strike action in a ballot of more than 500 Unison members after cuts were announced to help save £26m at the cash-strapped organisation.

Unison said more than 300 people went on strike on the first day of action and it expected more to take part next week.

Mid Yorkshire said it’s interim chief executive, Stephen Eames, had met with union representatives and had further meetings planned.

Karen Barnard, deputy director of HR at the trust, said: “We hear informally that Unison is planning further industrial action, which is disappointing.

“Our absolute priority is to maintain patient care during any action and, as before, we would put in place any appropriate contingency plans.

“We continue to be open to discussions with union colleagues and staff.”
