Reporters join in Movember madness

THERE’S a frenzy of facial fuzz sprouting up in our newspaper offices.

Staff at the Reporter Series are among men around the country giving up their razors to grow stylish moustaches to raise vital funds for prostate and testicular cancer charities.

Our efforts are part of the Movember campaign – rules state there must be no joining of the moustache to the sideburns or handlebars to the chin and each ‘Mo Bro’ must behave like a true gentleman.

And our reporters and photographer are competing amongst themselves to see who can grow the most impressive facial hair. Readers can decide for themselves as we keep up to date with our efforts over the coming weeks.

The annual fundraiser is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces across the globe in November to raise cash for charities, Prostate Cancer UK and the Institute of Cancer Research.

The Spenborough Guardian’s Richard Beecham said: “I am hoping to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer, while growing some impressive facial hair along the way.

“I’m trying for a Magnum PI, but I’m expecting more of a Micky Quinn!”

Batley and Birstall News reporter Mike Muncaster added: “As well as raising money, the aim of the campaign is to raise awareness and even if we made one more person aware then it will be a success.

“My efforts so far have yet to be recognised but I’m hoping nature can match my ambition for a manly ‘tache.”
