Police station evacuated after suspicious package handed in

DEWSBURY police station was evacuated after a suspicious package was handed in at the front counter.

The building was cleared yesterday evening as a precaution while the bomb squad carried out checks.

Today the package was confirmed as containing a firework.

Police had also cordoned off Rock House Park in Batley Carr where the package was originally found by a member of the public.

A police spokeswoman said the park and station were closed off as a precaution.
