THIS year as the Express celebrates its 100th anniversary, we’re celebrating what makes our area so special - you.

We will be acknowledging those dedicated members of our community by crowing our Express 100 Faces.

Those people, nominated by our readers, who deserve a bit of extra recognition.

Maureen Glover has dedicated 25 years to serving the community - quite literally - as the landlady of the Victoria Hotel, in Hemsworth.

Mrs Glover was nominated to be one our Express 100 Faces by her daughter Julie Glover.

She said: “She is the most generous and dedicated person I have ever met. She has spent so much of her time helping others and think she deserves to be recognised. If someone came into the Victoria and needed a bottle of milk and the shop was shut, and she had some, she would just give it to them. That’s the kind of helpful person she is.”

This year also marks her 25th anniversary at the pub on Kirkby Road.

Mrs Glover, 70, said: “I am really surprised to be nominated. It’s nice but I just like helping people. That’s just me. I want to carry on for more years to come.”

South Elmsall councillor Jack Thomas has been put forward for the hard work he put into establishing the Frickley Welfare Bowling Club four years ago.

He was nominated by Lynn Walsh, care co-ordinator at Cherry Tree residential home in South Elmsall.

Some of the people they care for attend the club.

She said: “Jack is absolutely fantastic, he gives up so much of his time and I think he should be acknowledged for what he has done over the years.”

Coun Thomas was grateful but said other volunteers who helped run the group deserved some of the praise.

He said: “I wanted to set the group up as I felt as a town we didn’t do enough.”

If you know of anyone who deserves to become one of the Express 100 faces, contact us using the details on page 2.
