Man’s van used for flytipping

A man who allowed his van to be used for flytipping in Dewsbury has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Jess Mayman, 53, of Common Lane, East Ardsley, pleaded guilty at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to having control of a vehicle that was used to illegally dump tyres on Pepper Royd Street, Dewsbury, on October 9, 2011.

Two men were caught by CCTV illegally dumping around 60 car tyres using Mayman’s white Renault Van.

He was jailed for 20 weeks, suspended for two years. He was also given a daily curfew order from 7pm to 7am for 20 weeks and ordered to pay £500 costs.

Coun Cathy Scott, joint cabinet member for Streetscene, said: “Flytipping is a blight on Kirklees and will not be tolerated. All incidents of flytipping are thoroughly investigated and perpetrators will be brought before the courts.”
