Korall Koral baby opera
HUDDERSFIELD Contemporary Music Festival has been celebrating new music for 35 seasons and this year baby opera is one of its offerings.
The festival runs across Kirklees from November 16 to 25 and comprises a ground-breaking programme of events including the UK premiere of Korall Koral – an interactive baby opera for children under three.
The unusual show will be performed twice daily, on November 24 and 25, at the University of Huddersfield and in Dewsbury Town Hall.
Korall Koral is a 20 minute performance of movement, music and song, which takes place inside a shell-shaped tent with specially designed instruments resembling sea creatures – such as a sea horse harp, a bagpipe creature and a glass chime jellyfish!
After the performance babies and their grown-ups are welcome to explore the tent and its contents.
The festival also includes the world premiere of John Surman’s Lifelines, a choral piece co-commissioned by the festival and BBC Radio 3.
