Family who fed homeless on Christmas Day want others to do the same

A TEN-YEAR-OLD girl who served Christmas dinner to the homeless wants more cafes to follow in her footsteps next Christmas.

Gracie McNulty wanted to fulfil her late dad’s wish of feeding the needy – so the family opened Grilled and Filtered in Bradford Road on December 25 and served 50 dinners to the homeless.

Now Gracie has set up a Facebook page – Gracie’s mission – to get more businesses involved next year. On the page, Gracie said: “All you do is add the name of your cafe or restaurant on this page, where it is and if you need volunteers to help you on Christmas Day. Help feed the homeless at one of the saddest times of the year, Christmas Day. Thank you.”

The page was only set up last week, but it has already received 263 ‘likes’ and many messages of support.

Gracie’s mum, Sharon, said: “If it means two more people are warm next Christmas Day, it will be worth it.

“I think we should look after those people in need in our area – we should share the load.”

The family’s story hit the national headlines over Christmas and people from all over the country have sent cards to Gracie saying how touched they have been by her story.
