LET DOWN: Saghir Qayum, who suffers from cerebral palsy and was waiting for eight weeks for his bins to be collected.

A disabled man had to wait eight weeks to have his bins emptied by Kirklees Council.

Saghir Qayum, who suffers from cerebral palsy, was told to keep his bins in his back garden after one was set on fire in December.

Because of his condition, he was told the bin men would collect them from there to save him taking them out to the front of his house in Wellington Walk, Eightlands.

But despite Mr Qayum, 32, making repeated calls to the council, his bins were not emptied until last Thursday when he complained to his ward councillor.

He said: “I was upset and let down because in this day and age, living in a civilised society, this should not happen.

“To be treated like this is disgraceful.”
