Dewsbury hospital abuse allegation revealed in Jimmy Savile report

A REPORT into sexual abuse carried out by Jimmy Savile includes an alleged offence at Dewsbury Hospital.

It details hundreds of allegations made against the late BBC DJ and TV presenter since the Metropolitan Police began Operation Yewtree last year.

It includes an alleged offence in 1969 at Dewsbury Hospital, which became part of the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust in 2002.

The operation was triggered by an ITV programme broadcast on October 4 which featured five women speaking about being abused by Savile in the 1970s.

Giving Victims a Voice, a report by the Metropolitan Police and children’s charity NSPCC, says around 600 people have contacted Operation Yewtree investigators since then.

It says the total number of contacts relating to Savile is expected to be around 450, mainly alleging sexual abuse.

So far 214 criminal offences in which Savile is a suspect have been formally recorded, including 34 in the West Yorkshire area.

The report says Savile’s role as a fundraiser and volunteer gave him a high level of access at Leeds General Infirmary, Stoke Mandeville and Broadmoor hospitals.

But it says no information has been received to suggest he had similar access at other hospitals or hospices.
