With strikers Jermaine Beckford and James Vaughan out through injury, manager Simon Grayson signed Welsh international Church until December 8.
Church, 23, has said he can’t wait to get going at this weekend’s Championship game at Barnsley.
Beckford is currently nursing a hamstring injury and was assessed yesterday for a return to training, while Norwich loanee Vaughan, who has a thigh injury, is expected to miss his fourth straight match for a scan.

At Elland Road, midfielder Michael Tonge looks set to be staying on when his loan from Stoke City expires next month.
Assistant manager Mick Jones has revealed the club is planning to approach Stoke to discuss a deal to keep Tonge at United until the end of the season. The current deal is set to run out after the Whites’ home game against Middlesbrough on December 22.
Tonge went to Leeds in September on a three-month emergency loan but is expected to leave Stoke when his contract runs out at the end of the season. Jones said: “We’d like to extend (his contract). He’s a good player who’s done well.”
Elsewhere, ecstatic Celtic fans watched as their team stunned Barcelona in the Champions League with a 2-1 victory last night.
Midfielder Victor Wanyama and substitute Tony Watt netted a goal apiece before Barcelona’s Lionel Messi scored in added time.
