Luxury five-star Dewsbury care home opened by Emmerdale star

A soapstar was the VIP guest at the opening of a new care home in Dewsbury.

Emmerdale actress Charlie Hardwick joined the town’s mayor and mayoress to officially unveil Oak Park in Chickenley.

The 66-bed home is owned by Darrington Healthcare, and offers five-star care, including large en-suite rooms, cafes, a hair and beauty salon, a bar, and cinema and activity rooms. Oak Park is set over three floors, and provides residential and specialist dementia care.

The soap favourite proved a hit with families attending the launch event, which follows an open day last month when people could tour the accommodation.

Managing director Eric Dixon was delighted to welcome the showbiz guest:

“Charlie was absolutely lovely, and a real hit with everyone. She was very impressed with the home’s facilities, saying how important it was that as a society we care for our older generation and provide the high quality care that helps them to live with dignity and independence.

“She has promised to come back later this year and we are looking forward to welcoming her through the doors again.”
