Free books were given to children from a Ravensthorpe nursery to encourage a love of reading.

World Book Day took place on Thursday, and to celebrate, Kirklees Council’s cabinet member for libraries and information, Coun Shabir Pandor, gave Bookstart packs to parents and toddlers from Children Place Nursery at the Greenwood Centre.

The free packs are distributed to more than 5,000 Kirklees children under one and aged three each year through libraries, health visitors and pre-school groups.

Coun Pandor said: “Reading with babies and toddlers can help to develop a stronger relationship with you, basic speech, reading and communication skills, logical thinking, enhanced concentration and discipline and above all the knowledge that reading is fun.”
