Hospice's garden gets a summer spruce-up

Kirkwood Hospice has undergone a garden transformation just in time for summer.

A section of the hospice’s outdoor space was turned into an evergreen-inspired garden thanks to Pennine, a Wyevale Garden Centre.

The garden now boasts year-round colours via a variety of flowers.

The transformation marks the culmination of an initiative that saw hundreds of locals vote, and stakeholders from across Yorkshire come together to give something back to those in need.

The makeover was the result of a community-driven competition launched at the centre in October 2015 to give something back to locals on behalf of locals.

Running during December 2015, the competition saw hundreds of visitors to the garden centre place votes for their favourite group to win.

Andrew Harper, Garden Centre Manager at Pennine, said: “It has been a delight to watch this project come to fruition.

“We hope that this makeover makes the locals proud and brings joy to residents, family members, volunteers and staff at Kirkwood.”
