Detectives release description after tyre slasher's vandalism spree

Detectives investigating a vandalism spree in Liversedge have released a description of a man they are trying to trace.

The man slashed the tyres of more than a dozen cars in three different streets during the same night.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers, who have been making enquiries in the area, including viewing CCTV footage want to speak to a man described as slim, possibly 5ft 10ins tall and aged in his mid 30s.

“He had a fairly small dog with him that is either black in colour with a white patch on its back or a white coloured dog with a black patch on its back.”

Thousands of pounds worth of damage were caused to cars on Valley Road, Valley Court and Ings Crescent overnight on May 12.

More than 15 people reported having their tyres damaged.

Dawn Foster says her car was targeted outside her home on Valley Road.

She said: “It’s just mindless vandalism.

“I think a lot of people are very confused as to why someone would do this.

“It wasn’t just one or two cars and feeling is that this was organised.

“It’s obviously someone who has a very big grudge with an awful lot of people here.”

Coun Lisa Holmes (Liversedge and Gomersal, Con) is also asking residents to consider setting up a Neighbourhood Watch in the area, to deter criminals from targeting the area in future.

Insp Mohammed Rauf, of the Batley and Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I would appeal to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

“We have a number of positive lines of enquiry and are working closely with local partners.

“We have increased patrols in the area to reassure residents that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
