Labour Party members in Dewsbury and Mirfield will select their parliamentary candidate for 2015 next month.

It was announced earlier this year that the Dewsbury Constituency Labour Party would choose from an all-women shortlist.

Today (Wednesday) chairman Mike Greetham said: “We’ve got a shortlist. The final hustings and vote will be on November 2.”

The candidates on the shortlist are all Labour councillors, although only one currently represents a ward in the constituency.

Nasrin Ali is a councillor for Levenshulme in Manchester.

Cathy Scott is a councillor for Dewsbury East and a Kirklees Cabinet member.

She tweeted: “Honoured to have been named on the shortlist to be Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Dewsbury. Busy month ahead!”

Meanwhile, Paula Sherriff is a councillor for Pontefract North.

She told Twitter followers: “Delighted and honoured to have been shortlisted today for Dewsbury parliamentary selection. Now back speaking to members about task ahead.”
