The Reporter Series five-a-side Football Tournament is now set to take place on Saturday December 13.
The boys from the paper have been busy honing their skills for the tournament, which will raise funds for this year’s charity, Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Spaces are still available for teams to enter the tournament, which takes place at Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre in Cleckheaton.
The training sessions have taken their toll on the reporters, none more so than Joe Cooper.
He said: “Running around for stretches of two minutes or more have proved a challenge but my fitness is increasing day-by-day. I can now run the length of a pitch without getting a stitch.”
He also paid tribute to the team’s new recruits.
“I think we are in a better position than last year,” he added. “Thanks to the addition of geordie striker David Speareall, we now have our very own Andy Carroll!”
Reporter David said: “My fitness is improving – I have been doing quite a few runs to get myself in shape.
“I think we have a very good chance of winning – provided we don’t come up against the stronger teams too early in the tournament there is always a chance we can get through.”
Last year’s tournament raised more than £500 for the Reporter Series Fund.
