A YOUNG sportswoman has become a real team player after stepping forward to train younger members of her club.

Jade Bennett, 17, has taken the first steps to becoming a coach by passing level 1 of her rugby league UK Coaching Certificate.

Jade first started playing rugby at Bywell Junior School before joining Shaw Cross Sharks.

“My teacher got me started on to it,” she said. “I was the only girl. I never really liked any other sports but I love rugby.”

Six years ago, Jade joined Castleford Panthers and she now plays in the second row for its women’s open age team.

Jade, of Lincoln Road, Earlsheaton said: “I started helping out with the under 10s and they asked if I wanted to train up. If they need any help with coaching I can lend a hand now but I need to be 18 to sit the next qualification.”

Jade is also helping the team find sponsors.
