PUBLIC meetings are being lined up to thrash out reaction to future housing plans for Dewsbury.
Local MP Simon Reevell has arranged one session for next week. And on April 14, another meeting will be held, spearheaded by Coun Khizar Iqbal.
On Tuesday, Mr Reevell looks at how the Local Development Framework will affect Dewsbury East. Kirklees Council proposals include 700 new homes across the ward. The meeting is at 7pm at Dewsbury Rams stadium.
The MP says he has received dozens of emails and letters from constituents angry about the way the council managed public consultation. He wants people to be able to have their say. Each of the three local ward councillors has been invited.
Mr Reevell said: “People are angry about not having their say. I urge them to come and speak out.”
A new community action group is challenging LDF proposals for Dewsbury South, where the council wants to build 4,500 new homes - around half on Green Belt.
Coun Iqbal said: “The strength of feeling in opposition to these proposals is very deep indeed. There are many unanswered questions and we will produce an alternative plan to submit to the government.” The Dewsbury South meeting is at Thornhill Lees Community Centre on April 14, 7pm.
