FAMILIES had the chance to look around a new care home which wants to look after their elderly relatives.

Stonehouse Manor in Moorlands Road, Dewsbury, held an open day to show people the facilities it will offer when it opens for a dementia sufferers in February.

Manager Bev Dyrlaga said: “It’s not got a nursing home feel about it. It’s very homely, very calm, very friendly and there are a lot of features in specifically for dementia care.”

There are rooms for 32 residents, as well as a television lounge, a library and a reminiscence room, full of items from years gone by.

Mrs Dyrlaga said: “The reaction that most people have when they walk into that room is, ‘Oh, my mum used to have that,’ and that’s the reaction we are looking for. It’s sparking those memories.”
