Mirfield Ambassador and Olympic Torch nominee Harry Crowther 12, was joined by Hayley Okines, 13, who also has Progeria and her family from Bexhill, to raise money for the UK Progeria Reunion by holding a sponsored leg wax.
Mayling Howarth owner of Perfections in Mirfield accompanied her beauty therapists Danielle and Alex as they waxed the legs of Harry’s dad, John Crowther. Harry’s brother, Jack, Hayley’s dad, Mark Okines, and friends Darren, Ryan and Ste.
The evening also saw an auction and raffle and an acoustic set by a local band, Champagne for Enemies, who also kindly donated an acoustic guitar to the auction. Both the Crowther and Okines families would like to thank Liverpool FC, Leeds Rhinos, Dean Jackson, Mr Morris, Kashmir Restaurant, Yangtze restaurant, The Bathroom Store, Dalby’s and Haigh’s farm and many more for supplying gifts to auction and raffle.
Most importantly Harry would like to thank all his family and friends for sharing the evening with him and to Mel and Ryan Brown of The Knowl Club for hosting the event.
The evening raised £1,500 which will go towards supporting the reunion for children with Progeria and their families from the UK, of which there are just four, and from Europe to have five days together with children like them.
