THe search is on for the best goal kicker in North Kirklees.

Batley Bulldogs and Dewsbury Rams are challenging local amateur teams to put forward their most talented players for The Ponderosa Golden Goal Competition.

The contest will be hosted during a televised championship derby at the Bulldogs’ stadium on Good Friday, with finalists competing during half-time.

Sponsored by Ponderosa Rural Therapeutic Centre in Heckmondwike, it will raise funds for charity One Community.

Trustee Chris Battye said: ‘We are extremely grateful to both clubs for letting us hold this event, which we hope will be the first of many as we look to build support for charitable groups in the area.

“All monies raised will be for One Community. In particular we will use the money raised to establish a permanent fund that will support local charities and community groups.”
