The popular Flame event returns to Dewsbury’s Crow Nest Park later this month with a selection of free sports and activities for everyone to try.

The event on Thursday, July 28 (11am-3pm) offers people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to have a go at a range of inclusive activities including cricket, football, wheelchair sports and a chance visit to the sensory tent.

Each activity is run by local inclusive sport and activity providers and is open to the whole family.

The Paralympic lantern, which passed through Kirklees on its way to the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, will also be on show at the Dewsbury Museum inside the park as a special celebration of this Olympic and Paralympic year.

Councillor Viv Kendrick, responsible for Health and Activity, said: “Flame is a unique opportunity to try new sports and keep active.

“You can also find out about where you can access inclusive sport and physical activity locally on a regular basis.”

She added: “What makes this event especially successful is the sense of a united community - everyone joins in and has fun together - no matter what age or ability.”

Organisers are encouraging visitors to dress appropriately for the weather as activities are outdoors.

A changing places unit and other changing facilities will be available.

A fun run around the park and an orienteering competition are also planned for the day. For more, visit bit.ly/29OVzXf.
