When Angela Ward was alive, she was always there for her friends.

Now three of her school friends are raising money for the nurses who cared for Mrs Ward in her final days.

Julie Smith, 55, June Stanley, 54 and Pam Swithenbank, 55, met Mrs Ward at Thornhill School. The foursome stayed close friends, meeting every week to catch up.

So when Mrs Ward was diagnosed with lung cancer last year, her family were eager that her friends be at her bedside.

Mrs Smith said: “We were so close to the end. We were just glad we could be with Angela to say goodbye.

“Angela was always there for you if you needed somebody. Now it’s just the three of us and it’s quite strange without her. I thought doing something in memory of Angela might help.”

The charity 70s and 80s night, in aid of MacMillan cancer support, is at Thornhill Edge Working Men’s Club on May 17 at 7.30pm.
