DEWSBURY’S free town bus is here to stay after winning funding for another 12 months.
The service linking the train station, bus station, retail park and town centre is used by 4,000 people each week.
It will continue to run for the next year after Metro, Kirklees Council and Sainsbury’s agreed to carry on paying the £80,000 running costs.
Kirklees cabinet member for regeneration Coun Peter McBride said: “We work hard through our anti-recession strategies to ensure town centres are vibrant places to visit and the Freetownbus services are an effective way of supporting local business.
“Having a free, first-class transport service provides easy access around town and has clear benefits for residents, visitors and traders.”
