Fraudster in court for £6,000 scam

A CAR parts dealer was given a suspended jail sentence for conning his customers.

Ibrar Hussain, 39, of Old Mill View, Thornhill Lees, pleaded guilty to 12 counts of fraud having taken £6,404 from customers for spare car parts he did not dispatch.

Mr Hussain set up his company, Universal Auto Salvage, based at Firths Yard, in Mill Road, in 2008.

Chloe Hudson, prosecuting at Leeds Crown Court, said 60 complaints had been made about the firm to West Yorkshire Trading Standards up until June 2010.

Robin Frieze, mitigating, said the business had traded honestly until the beginning of 2009 when one of its main suppliers went bust and it began to incur large debts.

Judge Gillian Matthews QC jailed Mr Hussain for 12 months, suspended for two years, and ordered him to pay £5,834 compensation and do 300 hours unpaid work.
