It seems to be the trend nowadays for the media and public to slate MPs and not recognise the hard work some do. I know some MPs have behaved in an unacceptable manner but as in everything it is the minority ruining it for the majority. Here in Dewsbury we have a good, honest, hard-working MP so I respectfully ask that people give him the credit he so rightly deserves. Those who claim he is a ‘part-time MP’ have jumped straight to conclusions without getting to know him and have not even given him a chance. He is very much a full-time MP who always puts his constituency first.
Simon has to be one of the most visible and accessible MPs in the country. He does regular street stalls and surgeries throughout the constituency, his door is always open for anyone who wants to talk to him and he is a friendly, approachable guy with a great sense of humour. He is always dealing with people’s case work and getting involved in community events and don’t forget that this is the man who brought the Olympic Torch and, more recently, the Rugby World Cup to Dewsbury. He never seems to take a day off, nothing is ever too much and he manages to do everything with a smile on his face.
I can testify personally that he also does a lot of work with involving young people in politics and encouraging the next generation of leaders. He looked after me when I first started out and continues to support me and others my age. A few years ago he organised for me and my then sixth form politics class to go on what was my first ever trip to Westminster, a trip he is always willing to organise for any of his constituents who wish to visit Parliament.
I for one will be rewarding him for his constant hard work by voting for him when we go to the polls in 2015 and I call on others to do the same – unless of course you want to risk losing this hard-worker and find out what it is really like to then end up with an MP who does not work hard. I certainly don’t!
