TORCHBEARERS are getting set for a once-in-a-lifetime experience as they prepare to take part in the country’s Olympic Flame Relay.
On Monday, 17 people will carry the torch through Batley and Dewsbury. The flame will be taken along Halifax Road, through the town centre and along Wakefield Road, starting in Batley Carr at 9.50am and reaching Chickenley just before 10.30am.
The torch will then be taken through Wakefield where Castle Hall Academy pupil Harry Crowther is one of the torchbearers.
The 13-year-old, who suffers from aging illness progeria, said: “It’s exciting but I’m also nervous at the same time, so it’s mixed feelings.”
Extended learning co-ordinator at Westborough High School Gayna Goalby will also be carrying the torch in Wakefield.
A bus-load of Westborough pupils will be lining the torch route to cheer on Mrs Goalby with her friends and family.
