A 22-year-old woman was dragged along the road in a carjacking incident in Dewsbury last night (Monday).
The victim was pulled out of her car after she stopped in a quiet street to take a call on her mobile phone at around 10pm.
After she pulled into Wheelwright Drive, a hooded male opened her car door, grabbed her by the arm and pulled her out of the vehicle.
The woman put up a struggle, but the suspect managed to take control of the car, a red and black Mini Cooper, and drive away.
As the victim tried to stop him, she was dragged along the road for a short distance and sustained cuts and bruises to her body.
Her injuries are not thought to be serious.
The car was then seen a short time later and was found abandoned in a field between Scar Lane and Moorside Road, Dewsbury.
The suspect is described as white, wearing a plain grey hooded top, grey jogging bottoms and a red baseball cap.
Detective Inspector Ian Thornes, of Kirklees CID, said: “This was a terrifying incident for a young lady who tried in vain to stop the suspect getting away in the car.
“She is receiving treatment for her injuries and we are appealing for information to catch the suspect.”
Anyone who has any information, or who saw the car in either of the two areas, is asked to contact Kirklees CID via 101.
