The new man in charge of setting the budget for West Yorkshire Police faced some tough questions when he visited Mirfield.

Mark Burns-Williamson – the county’s first Police and Crime Commissioner – took part in a question and answer session at the Salvation Army Hall last Thursday.

He was joined on the panel by Coun Martyn Bolt, who chaired the session, and Kirklees divisional commander Tim Kingsman.

Ch Supt Kingsman is responsible for day-to-day policing, while Mr Burns-Williamson sets the policing budget and holds the force to account.

The commissioner told residents: “I’m going to be someone that’s out and about most of the time, visiting all parts of West Yorkshire – not sitting in an office in Wakefield.”
