Man suffers substantial head wound after being hit with spade

A man is in hospital after he was hit on the head with a spade outside his home.

Det Insp Steph Wiseman, of Kirklees CID, said the man went outside to offer some workmen a cup a tea when he was struck on the head by another man at his house in Back Slaithwaite Road, Dewsbury.

He was taken to hospital with what police described as a “substantial head wound” at around 11.30am yesterday (Monday).

Police have arrested a man in connection with the assault.
