The sounds of the silver screen will be brought to life at a unique concert taking place in Batley next month.
Hammonds Saltaire Brass Band will be bringing their annual Last Night of the Proms concert to the town on Saturday June 15.
The event, Britannia’s Night At The Movies, will feature a number of pieces that audience members will recognise from throughout the history of cinema.
It takes place at Batley Town Hall and films featured in the programme will include Gone With The Wind, Mary Poppins, Braveheart and the Harry Potter series.
There will also be music from the scores of Batman, 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Last Of The Mohicans.
The band will close the show by playing more traditional pieces, capturing the spirit of the Last Night Of The Proms with renditions of Jerusalem, a Fantasia on British Sea Songs and Pomp and Circumstance March No 1.
There are 30 musicians in the Hammonds Saltaire Brass Band, conducted by Gomersal resident Morgan Griffiths.
The roots of the band date back to 1855, when a brass band was formed for the village of Saltaire.
Since then, the band has gone on to win European championships, and has been crowned Champions of Yorkshire on several occasions.
Mr Griffiths has made the midsummer Last Night Of The Proms concert one of the band’s highlights of the year, with growing audiences showing their national pride by standing up to sing along as they wave their union flags.
Tickets for this year’s event at Batley Town Hall cost £10, or £8 for concessions. They can be purchased in advance from the town hall by calling 01924 324501, or from the band’s Birstall based publicity officer Ted Griffiths on 01924 478933.
