CADETS were thanked for their contribution to this year’s poppy appeal at an awards evening.
The Dewsbury branch of the Royal British Legion invited Dewsbury air, sea and army cadets along to its annual celebration at The Plough in Mirfield.
The cadets collected more than £2,000 for the 2010 appeal which has raised £11,000 so far.
Dewsbury branch secretary Karen Rourke said: “We couldn’t do it without them, we really couldn’t. We rely on the cadets every year and we’re so thankful.”
Each year, the branch gives trophies to the three pairs of cadets who sold the most poppies.
And for the first time this year, it awarded a trophy in memory of the late David Bland, a former branch member.
The David Bland memorial trophy was presented by his daughter, Lisa Wilkinson, to two cadets who best represented their unit during the appeal.
The memorial trophy went to air cadets Seemeen and Sara Sakharkar, who are sisters.
The other trophies went to air cadets Elliott Dawson and Zoe Allen, army cadets Jack Jelves and Daniel Stanger, and sea cadets Shannon Edwards and Ashleigh Black, whose trophy was collected by Arron Oldroyd.
